A research associate / research fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Sing Yian CHEW and Dr. Shiyan Ng at Nanyang Technological University and A*Star IMCB, Singapore, to a highly motivated candidate who has a passion for stem cell differentiation, spinal cord injury treatment and tissue engineering research.
The goal of the program is to derive and differentiate human neural stem cells using biomaterials for neural cell implantation therapy for spinal cord treatment. We will achieve this goal through enhanced biological understanding of the regeneration process of nerve tissue together with optimized engineering methods to prepare biomaterial scaffolds and neural cells for a robust manufacturing and successful transplantation into the body
We are seeking an individual who is 1) experienced in working with human induced pluripotent stem cells and neural stem cells; 2) interested in characterizing/evaluating neural stem cell behavior in vitro and in vivo, and 3) understanding scaffold-cell/tissue interactions through immunofluorescent and histochemical staining and imaging.
The candidate is expected to work well in a collaborative inter-institute environment. The candidate will be given opportunities and is expected to design and execute experiments independently. The candidate is also expected to interpret experimental results, and author papers in high-quality journals in areas that are related to the research. The candidate should demonstrate excellent communication skills and should have a strong passion and commitment to science. The candidate will also work closely with the Principal Investigators to help supervise and train students and junior lab members and to ensure smooth functioning of an active research program. The candidate will have the opportunity to explore his/her own interests across functions.
Requirements:
Candidates should have a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences, Neuroscience, Stem Cells, Regenerative Biology or a relevant field. Our ideal candidate has several of the following skills and knowledge:
We expect the candidate to be an efficient and autonomous team researcher, have good communication, writing and ethics skills, and have a critical approach to formulation and testing of hypotheses.
Starting salaries will depend on candidate’s qualification and experience. Candidates are expected to start ASAP. Review of applicants will continue until positions are filled. Applicants should submit a cover letter indicating their area of interest and how they intend to participate and contribute to the research, complete curriculum vitae and addresses of three references in a single PDF document to Dr. Sing Yian CHEW: [email protected]
